D&I in Grocery LIVE! unites the Grocery industry to drive change

Results from Maturity Model shape the largest diversity and inclusion event in the grocery sector

The D&I in Grocery Programme – managed by GroceryAid – launched a new Maturity Model in January to accelerate a truly diverse and inclusive Grocery industry. With the data crunched, the insights are being implemented across the Programme.

“It’s well known that setting goals and tracking impact is key to making real progress,” explains Simon Smith, Go To Market Operations Director of Kellanova and Programme Strategy Steering Group Chair. “The Maturity Model provides an incredibly rich source of data to drive the right action. We can build on this year-on-year to make a real impact.”

The Maturity Model enables Partners to score themselves across ten categories such as business case and strategy and data capture and analysis, and ten areas of diversity, including ethnicity and social mobility. The scores feed into an industry state-of-play measurement and importantly, highlight areas where improvement is needed.

The inaugural model was completed by 88 percent of partners, achieving an overall industry score of 4.4 out of ten. “It’s a really honest score and true representation of the whole industry,” continues Smith. “From a Kellanova perspective, using the model has provided us with a framework to drive the right action with our Leadership team and Employee Resource Groups, based on actual data.”

With the baseline score established, the focus is now on moving the dial. Learnings from the model are being implemented across the Programme and more than 140 partners have been connected to share best practice. This year’s D&I in Grocery LIVE! event will support an intersectional approach to diversity and inclusion.

Caroline Cater, Vice President of People & Culture at Coca-Cola European Partners and Chair of the D&I in Grocery LIVE! Steering Group explains: “D&I in Grocery LIVE! 2024 will delve into the categories and areas of diversity that the Maturity Model explores through Live Labs and Speed networking sessions. For the first time we will run topic hacks to pull apart and discuss in detail key areas in which all partners need help.”

The event which takes place on 4th October at InterContinental London – The O2, will be hosted by multi-award-winning journalist, Clive Myrie, who will also lead a panel discussion exploring how inclusive practices can futureproof the grocery industry. There will also be inspiration from Mary Portas on keeping diversity and inclusion at the top of the agenda. “Come to the event to collectively drive change” adds Cater.

The event brings together more than 1,600 colleagues and can be attended face-to-face or virtually. Just a few in-person tickets remain – book now at diversityingrocery.co.uk

The event is a moment in time that showcases the essence of the Programme. Tesco’s Group Sourcing & Commodities Director, Richard Stratton is Deputy Chair of the Programme Strategy Steering Group comments: “In parallel with implementing short-term wins across the programme, we’re conducting focused workstreams with the Strategy Steering Group to achieve longer-term gains. We’re also preparing for the 2025 Maturity Model completion window next January to continue monitoring tangible progress.”
